Two Quilts

There are two quilts in this photo. Both made by women I never knew. The one over the back of the couch I bought at a vintage shop called Rewind for $5. And the other my "memaw" made before I was born. So it is at least 25 years old. In the middle of all the squares reads, "The Bakers, Shirley, Richard, Christy and Beth." those people are my sisters and my mom and dad. Can you imagine the look on my face after I learned to read and found that my name was not on that quilt? I can remember being so hurt! Then someone informed me I wasn't even born yet when the quilter quilted it, and I became rational. Ha! She passed a month after my first birthday. I've seen photos. She was a thin brunette named Idabelle. I wish I knew the story on the other quilt.
Now as for the child in the photo. He is out in the living room during bedtime for the 4th night in a row. We have been watching Grey's Anatomy together on Netflix. It's really sweet. He's a super hyper kid and this was not an option in the past. We would watch something (non cartoon) it would hold his attention for 3 minutes and then he would be running around ASAP! Currently, he is laying there listening quietly to "Jump in the line" by Harry Belafonte for the 14th time today. I love it. So much. We have school to thank for him keeping still and quiet.... At the moment.

Home Home Home

This morning when we started packing in the hotel my son said excitedly, "Home home home!" This is a reference to Beetlejuice. There's a scene where the Maitland's dig up the ghost with the most in the "model", and after he disappoints, Barbara yells, "Home home home!" in order to go back home. As a kid, I watched Beetlejuice like most little girls watched Cinderella. My dad would also notice when it was on a cable station Saturday mornings, NOT wake me up and turn the movie on in my bedroom. The result was my dreaming of it, or dreaming I was IN the movie myself several times. This movie is etched into my past in a big way. A few months ago I let my son watch it. He is four. Now, I saw it for the first time at the age of 2, and I remember watching it again as a teen and realizing they cursed and there were some inappropriate parts. Knowing this, I feel no reason to keep my son from watching it while he's young. He's not going to understand the "bad" parts, and they aren't that bad at all, really. He LOVED IT! It made me smile. He has seen it about a half dozen times. All at his request. He also references it at funny times. He was helping his dad in his Nana's garden once and said that they were, "digging up Beetlejuice." Haha! He also points out striped things and tells me it's Beetlejuice. I love it, he's my boy! here's the Home Home Home scene. 3 minutes 40 second mark. http://youtu.be/WRDJN23YZmw

Happy Birthday Text

I have this coworker with a hilarious family. Her brother will post people's private phone numbers on Facebook and have his fb friends send happy birthday wishes. He even did this to his own mother and when he did it to my coworker (his sister) she got about 50 texts! Well, today is his birthday and sure enough his sister posted his phone number on Facebook so I sent him this.

Thrifty finds of the day! Leopard print flats AND fabric, three 4t shorts, seven 4t shirts (super hero, Van Halen, PEACE sign, STAR WARS T and a go green T that he'll think is green lantern but is actually sending a message!) There's also a vintage tin that will soon house utensils, a cheese grater that will soon be spray painted (Pinterist inspired.) Oval frame, clip board I may or may not paint, an EXIT sign, a bowl that makes me think of Beetle juice and finally a large frame that will soon have chalk board paint on it!
