There are two quilts in this photo. Both made by women I never knew. The one over the back of the couch I bought at a vintage shop called Rewind for $5. And the other my "memaw" made before I was born. So it is at least 25 years old. In the middle of all the squares reads, "The Bakers, Shirley, Richard, Christy and Beth." those people are my sisters and my mom and dad. Can you imagine the look on my face after I learned to read and found that my name was not on that quilt? I can remember being so hurt! Then someone informed me I wasn't even born yet when the quilter quilted it, and I became rational. Ha! She passed a month after my first birthday. I've seen photos. She was a thin brunette named Idabelle. I wish I knew the story on the other quilt.
Now as for the child in the photo. He is out in the living room during bedtime for the 4th night in a row. We have been watching Grey's Anatomy together on Netflix. It's really sweet. He's a super hyper kid and this was not an option in the past. We would watch something (non cartoon) it would hold his attention for 3 minutes and then he would be running around ASAP! Currently, he is laying there listening quietly to "Jump in the line" by Harry Belafonte for the 14th time today. I love it. So much. We have school to thank for him keeping still and quiet.... At the moment.
